Go For The Gold - Summer Kids Camp 2024

Kids’ Camp “Go for the Gold” was an exciting week for its leaders and the campers. Every day was filled with music, stories, art, science, and games. Everyday we learned about Olympians from a variety of sports who were excellent examples of Christian attitudes toward life as they trained and competed in their chosen sports. We also learned about the Paralympics and Special Olympics and some amazing Olympians that have persevered to accomplish their goals in the sports arena.

Those who joined us for the closing ceremonies and BBQ were treated to the highlights of our week. The campers had much artwork on display. The campers also had designed an obstacle course for their parents and siblings to try. And of course, we had our Olympic Rings Javelin Toss to provide lots of fun for everyone.

A highlight for all ages was our parachute fun right before our actual closing ceremony and program. Parents and grandparents were good sports to give it a go with their campers. After experimenting with the calm and stormy seas the participants showed their cooperative skills sending a ball around the chute at a fast pace without losing it over the sides. For a finale we tried “the mushroom,” which was great fun making all our campers and their families disappear.

The closing ceremony with our parade of lights brought all our campers onto our stage for sharing songs and their expertise on playing the chimes, which everyone enjoyed being part. After that everyone enjoyed a delicious BBQ.

Camp was special. We touched the lives of the children and families that participated with us. We shared how special each one is in God’s eyes with gifts and talents to be shared and appreciated. We learned that many athletes remember who has blessed them with special talents, give thanks, and often forgo “going for the gold” to do what is needed at the moment to help another.
