Weekly Inspiration (6/7/24)

The life we have been given is right now. Live today as if this were your last day. The story is told of Saint Francis of Assisi who was out hoeing his garden. A passerby asked him what he would do if he were suddenly to learn that he would die before sunset that very day. Francis replied, “I would finish hoeing my garden.

Poem of the Week

Blessing for My Job
by Holly McKissick

Holy One,
You call me to live boldly--
and I receive that call as the gift it is,
a gift that is mystery and miracle,
discipline and devotion.

You call me to till soil
and build mountains,
creating and giving as I also take and receive.

You ask that I understand Your gifts to me...
while I use those gifts to make my own offering
to You and Your world.

I give thanks now for the gift of work,
for thinking up new ways to fix a problem,
for the chance to be part and parcel of creation,
for the grace of serving and then feasting
on my labors.

God, for my skills that are valued, needed,
and helpful to others,
hear my thanks.
