Community updates (6/8/22)

Shelley will be finishing her sabbatical and taking some vacation from June 13 through July 23. The Rev. Canon John Saville and his wife, Kathleen, will once again be here to cover her time away. They will be living in the rectory and Fr. John will be presiding and preaching at the 10:45am service each Sunday (there will be no 7:30am service during this time, due to lack of attendees. The 7:30am service will begin again when Shelley returns). Fr. John will also attend meetings and take care of any pastoral needs. You may call him directly or call Senior Warden Nancy Romer if you have need of pastoral care.

Our Re-Entry Team would like to point out that Santa Clara County is in a covid surge and wants to remind you of the following:

  • Masks inside the church building are optional, but strongly recommended, especially in the sanctuary.

  • ECA has a contact tracing protocol, so if you have been in church on Sunday and test positive during the week, please let Shelley know, even if you have no symptoms – we’ll send an eblast with no names, but letting people know they may potentially have been exposed.

  • There’s no change to our protocol for fellowship, we urge you to remember that covid is still around us, is an airborne virus, and to take care.

  • And, because it is airborne, we are passing the collection plates again, because this is considered safe with what we now know about transmission

Additionally, if you have symptoms, even if you think it’s a cold, please stay home.  Also, if you are feeling unwell, it is wise to use a covid home test.  Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order a 3rd round of free at-home tests, which are delivered to your home via USPS.  To order go to:  https://www.covid.gov/tests
Or you may go to CVS or another drug store and get them for free.  Part of the difficulty of covid is that people are contagious before symptoms develop – this is why we have a contact tracing protocol.
Thank you for acting with concern for everyone’s safety.

Have you been Confirmed or Received into The Episcopal Church?
If you have been Baptized but never Confirmed in any denomination, you may be Confirmed. Confirmation is a mature, public affirmation of your faith in, and intention to continue to follow, Jesus Christ. If you have been Baptized and Confirmed in another denomination, you may be Received into The Episcopal Church. In The Episcopal Church, this sacrament is officiated only by the Bishop, with the renewal of your Baptismal Covenant and the laying of the Bishop’s hands on your head. This is a formal step of belonging in The Episcopal Church and we believe it conveys God’s grace.

Bishop Lucinda Ashby’s annual, official visit to ECA will be on August 28th at the 10:45am service. At that time, she will Confirm or Receive anyone who has been prepared. Before the Bishop’s visit, I will be holding preparation classes for five weeks on Sunday mornings between our two services, July 24 through August 21: 9-10:15am.

If you are interested in being Confirmed or Received, please talk to me and plan to attend these five classes. You may be Confirmed regardless of how long you have attended The Episcopal Church. The classes are also open to anyone who wants a refresher course in who we are in The Episcopal Church, where we came from, and what we believe. Please be sure to speak with me if you plan to attend, whether or not you plan to be Confirmed or Received.
