365 Ways to Live Green for Kids
Coming to the close of this year, let’s prepare for the next with “365 Ways to Live Green for Kids” by Sheri Amsel. This book on “saving the environment at home, school, or at play – everyday”, is a wonderful resource loaded with information, ideas of what you can do to help make a difference, and much to think about and ponder. This would be an excellent resource for parents who want to expand their families ability to “live green” or for a home-school curriculum.
I loved the organization of the information into specific larger categories in the eight chapters presented, beginning with Chapter One – Food for Thought. Bet you never thought there could be 41 ideas to challenge you or your kids to live greener with food. What I especially liked in this section was the encouragement to reach out in my community and learn from other cultures and ideologies that coexist. We all need to eat. Although it certainly is a challenge to find and decide on what to ingest, there are many options and viewpoints. There is no right or wrong, but rather the development of different tastes based on resources and creativity used with those resources. We might even learn to enjoy some options that are different at first.
Throughout the book you can learn more from chapters on Earth 101, Pollution, Animal and Plant Life, Energy and Power, and of course, Recycling. Each entry is short, concise, with clear direction as to what to head out to learn or task to do. Some ideas will take time and effort, some will be an exciting adventure, and some a challenging step to make a greater difference through organization and agencies. All in all, this is a wonderful resource to spur us on to a greener lifestyle and far better for our earth home. I intend to keep it close at hand in the coming year to expand my own challenge to live greener.
